Celebrate 826 Day

Today, on 8/26, we’re honoring one of the world’s most creative nonprofits. 826 Valencia, through its writing centers with wildly imaginative storefronts, is dedicated to supporting under-resourced kids develop strong writing skills.

Our partnership with them began nearly 12 years ago, when we collaborated with co-founder Dave Eggers to reinvigorate 826 Valencia’s Pirate Supply Store. His brief to us? “Make it weird.” That’s the magic of 826. “Weird” is what gets kids engaged and sparks their imaginations. It gives them the confidence to find their own voice, which shows up in their writing and beyond.

Since that first collaboration, we’ve made weird stuff for King Carl’s Emporium, Woodland Creature Outfitters, Ltd., Bigfoot Research Center and The International Alliance of Youth Writing Centers.

To celebrate 826 Day, we encourage you to get involved — buy your Captain's Log and Unicorn Horn Polish, or donate, or volunteer.
